  • Where do you teach? Secret Harbour Beach, only 30 minutes south of the city straight down the freeway. We are the only beach in Perth that gets waves in the summer.
  • Where is Secret Harbour? 30 minutes south of the city, 10 minutes from Mandurah
  • How many people per instructor? 9 per coach
  • How many years have you been operating? 12 years
  • What boards do you teach on? Soft surf boards, we have various lengths to suit different heights and builds (6’6’ or 8’)
  • Can I use my own surfboard? No, unless it is a soft board (no fibreglass boards are to be used to due to risk of injury to other students )
  • Can I use my own wetsuit? Yes you can
  • What level of swimming do the students need to be? If they are 5 to 7yrs they do not need any swimming ability, classes are taught in very shallow water close to shore. If they are aged 8+ They need to be able to swim 50 metres unassisted in a swimming pool and tread water for 1 minute.
  • What are the qualifications of your surf coaches? They have completed their level 1 surf coaching course with Surfing Australia (Australia’s governing body for surfing), they have a high standard of surfing ability, they have completed their surf rescue certificate with Surf Live Saving Australia.
  • Do you give refunds? No we do not provide refunds, we will provide you with vouchers for the cost of your lessons if given 14 days notice of cancellation.
  • What happens if I/my child doesn’t like it? Never happens, it will surprise you how much they love it!
  • What if I miss a lesson? We do not supply make up classes unless you can provide a doctors certificate
  • What about sharks? Our classes are taught in waist deep water, too shallow for sharks and our beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers.
  • What are the waves and conditions like? We have the best conditions on our beach for learners in WA
  • Is the beach patrolled? Yes it is patrolled by surf lifesavers
  • Do lessons get cancelled in rain or bad weather? No, we only cancel our lessons when there strong wind or during a storm with lightning. You will be notified.
  • What do we need to bring? Towel, Sunscreen,snack and bottle of water
  • Is there public transport? Yes, if you catch the train along the Mandurah line to Warnbro and then catch the 561 bus to Secret Harbour beach and get off at bus stop 21429. Its then 30 seconds walk to the beach.
  • Are there shops nearby? yes Secret Harbour shopping centre
  • Are there showers and toilets? Yes there are toilets and a outdoor shower
  • How do I book? You can book online or call our office
  • Do we get discount for more than one child booking? No as you already get a $10 discount per child when  you return to do a second course with us.
  • What level is my child? If it’s a new student they will be going for level 1. You must complete 8 hours to get your level 1 certificate. If the student is returning with us then the coach will have a record of what level the student is at.
  • What is your level system? Level 1 – takes 8 hours of classes Levels 2 – 10 are assessment based, once you complete your level one we create a coaching card for you, each level then has tests you will need to pass to go onto the next level.
  • Can I pay cash on the day? All courses must be paid before the course commences by credit card.
  • Can I reserve a spot?Yes, but you will need to pay for your course when you book.
  • Do you have a waiting list? Yes we do have a waiting list, if there is a cancellation the available spot will be offered to people on the waiting list.
  • What happens if I am sick or injured? You will need to provide us with a doctors certificate and then reschedule your lessons at a different date
  • Where can I buy a surfboard?ask one of our friendly staff and we will guide you in what to purchase based on your level of surfing
  • Can disabled people participate in your courses? Absolutely! we have had a large range of participants with various abilities.
  • How long are we in the water? We have a short safety talk at the beginning of each class, then the majority of the lesson is in the water
  • What do we learn in the beginners course? How to avoid dangers in the surf, How to escape from a Rip,  The standup technique, How to read surf conditions, How to choose great waves, How to choose the correct weather conditions for surfing, What equipment is suitable for you.
  • Do you teach at any other locations? No, we only teach at Secret Harbour beach as it is the only beach in Perth that has waves all year round. It is also the best beach in Perth to learn to surf , as it has the best and safest conditions.
  • What payments do you accept? We take credit card payments over the phone or bookings online (must be prior to the course commencing)
  • Are there any safety risks? We minimise all risks by using correct equipment for learning and having fully trained instructors
  • Do I need to stay with my child during the lessons? No they will be fully supervised
  • What age do they need to be to participate? They must be 5 to 8 years for our junior course or 8 years and up for our standard courses
  • Can adults book into the course with their children? Yes they can and often do!
  • Do you offer group bookings or parties? Yes, minimum of 4 people for 1.5 hours lesson $50 per person
  • Do you run high performance courses? Patrick Moran the owner and head Coach has completed Level one & level two surf coaching Qualifications. He has Completed the ISA Judging Qualification is the only Qualified High Performance Surf Coach in the Rockingham /PeeL Region and Currently Coaches  8 of the best Junior Surfers wanting to advance their Ratings In the Surfing Western Australia State Surfing Titles.
  • I want to be in surfing competitions, can you help? We are the only surfing school in WA which can provide you with learning  pathways and a 10 tiered level sytem to start you competing in state competitions.
  • How big are the waves we surf on? As beginners we learn to surf in the white water, not in the waves out the back, which means it is always suitable to surf as we are always only waist deep.
  • How deep do we go out into the water? All lessons are taught in knee to waist deep water
  • Will we get the chance to surf on big waves? As you advance through the level system we will teach you how to surf unbroken waves out the back.
  • Will we get cold? We provide you with a full length Ripcurl wetsuit which is designed to keep you warm and keep the cold out
  • What months do we operate? October – July

  • When are you down at the beach? October, December, January, April school holidays between the hours of 8am – 1pm. Saturday and Sunday during the October – July season from 8am – 12pm. Hours and days are likely to change.
  • Are there ever any rips, etc at the beach? Yes all beaches that have waves have rips. You need to learn about rips if you want to learn to surf. We focus on teaching you about rips during your classes.
